OVERCOMING LONELINESS AND STRENGTHENING SOCIAL CONNECTIONS

Social distancing, working from home, and virtual schooling have changed the way that we are connecting with
others. For many, decreased social interactions have increased feelings of loneliness. Humans are social
beings and connection is important for our health and well-being. While it’s normal to feel lonely at times, there
are things you can do to overcome it.

PREPARING FOR A SOCIALLY DISTANCED HOLIDAY SEASON

The holidays are quickly approaching, and the reality is that this year’s festivities are likely to be much different than
prior years. Knowing that there will be changes can bring up some difficult feelings as well as the potential for some
positive feelings. What can you do to prepare yourself for a holiday season during a pandemic?

CELEBRATING THE HOLIDAY SEASON

The holiday season is likely looking a bit different for you and your family this year with the pandemic. While you
might not be able to celebrate like you have in past years, there are still many fun things you can do to enjoy the
season while practicing social distancing and staying safe. Here are 32 ideas.

NEW YEAR, NEW TAKE ON RESOLUTIONS

Can 2020 be over any sooner? We can all agree we are ready for a new year and hoping for a better 2021. With the new year, often comes resolutions for a “new” you. If you’re like 50% of Americans, you set resolutions in the past, but there’s a good chance you’re also in the 90% that didn’t keep those resolutions for more than a few months. So, after a year of uncertainty, stress, and burnout, how can you set goals that stick and more importantly, that matter?

COPING WITH SEASONAL AFFECTIVE DISORDER DURING COVID-19

With colder temperatures, fewer daylight hours, and increased stress and social isolation due to COVID-19, people are more at risk for experiencing Seasonal Affective Disorder (a.k.a. the winter blues) than in past years. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that typically occurs during the fall and winter months, in which cold weather and lack of sunlight seem to be triggering factors. SAD affects about 5% of U.S. adults every year.

ADAPTING TO WORKPLACE CHANGE

Change. It’s an unavoidable matter that we encounter in life. Sometimes we look forward to it, and other times it is challenging and unexpected. New policies and procedures, organizational restructuring, reductions in the workforce, mergers, and worker relocations are among the many changes in the workplace that can cause uncertainty and stress. So how do you deal with change? Here are seven tips for coping during a time of change or transition:

RECONNECTING SOCIALLY AFTER COVID-19

After a year of limited interactions with people outside your household, it can feel awkward to engage socially and return to
face-to-face interactions. If you’ve connected with others through technology and/or participated in socially distanced gatherings, you are less likely to struggle with re-entry awkwardness. However, people who’ve been more socially isolated or who suffer from mental health conditions, like social anxiety, may have more challenges with post-lockdown re-entry. If you’re having apprehensions about getting back to in-person activities, keep the following in mind.

THE GROWTH ZONE ADVANTAGE

Do you believe you can develop new abilities, master new skills, and overcome challenges through growth? Or do you think
you have limited potential to expand your knowledge and better yourself?
The reality is people do have the capacity to learn and grow throughout their lifetime, and those who believe this have what’s
called a growth mindset. These individuals think their abilities can be developed through hard work, using good strategies, and
getting input from others. Typically, those with a growth mindset are willing to put in effort, even if it takes time to see results
or achieve a goal, and continue through mistakes, creating more favorable outcomes for themselves.
